Between 2011 and 2019, the number of high school students reporting persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness increased nearly 10 percent, from 28 percent to 37 percent. By sharing a bit about themselves, teachers can foster greater rapport with students in their classrooms. Such sharing should not be for students only.
