For a lot of us, it has felt as though we are spending more of our time as graders determining whether a student completed an assignment with or without AI than we are actually providing meaningful feedback. As we did more of these assignments, more of the students wanted their videos shown in class. I welcomed all of it.

Break Down Complex Tasks Big assignments can feel overwhelming, especially for students who are already behind. For example, if they’re writing an essay, help them focus on just the intro first. Provide Personal Feedback Telling a struggling student how they are doing, and if they need to try harder, doesn’t always help them improve.

Each assignment has 1-10 points, with a total of 100 points. In my more recent students evaluations, students say they are less stressed, they are more motivated, and they understand assignment expectations at the beginning of the semester. I especially wanted students to understand that the final assignment was anything but.

Communicate major assignments and assessments in advance and give students opportunities to plan their time and effort. In a classroom focused on avoiding errors and completing tasks, students may see the purpose of a math assignment as completing items 1-17 without any errors so it can be checked and graded. Im here to help!

Online learning isn’t limited to slides and reading assignments. Encourage Feedback and Conversation: Feedback is key to growth, both for students and teachers. Encourage your child to listen to teacher feedback; if they feel something isn’t working, teach them how to share that respectfully.

You can allow them to write an argumentative essay, 2) prepare and engage in a live debate with a classmate, or 3) record an argumentative speech. Instead of assigning all students a single subject or issue to focus on for their argument, you can provide a list of topics and encourage students to select one of interest.
